Dr. Peter Hall, Director and Optical Designer at Mindsmeet has been designing lenses for over 35 years. His designs range from television and cine lenses, through aspheric infra-red optics and a wide variety of defence products to unusual items such as micro-lens systems for mobile phones (and the test equipment to test the camera) to solar concentration optics (the size of a small house) to go in a solar power station (the size of a small sports stadium)!

One of our most unusual tasks was an analysis of the risk of inadvertent creation of solar images by the Sky-Mirror sculpture at the Nottingham Playhouse, created by the celebrated sculptor Anish Kapoor. Local residents and media had become alarmed at a perceived risk to themselves and wild-life, and the architect's project managers needed detailed calculations by a reputable specialist to reassure them that there was in fact no danger, and fortunately there was no danger!

Many of the thermal imagers used by fire-fighters around the world to penetrate smoke-filled buildings depend in some aspect on optical designs created by Peter Hall. In fact the very first experimental design, created by UK MOD scientists for the UK Home Office in 1978 used one of his early lens designs.

Although we can produce and supply the optics if required, using our wide range of supplier contacts in Europe and the Far-East, we have actually specialised in embedding the design into the customers overall system, ensuring that when we have finished the customer has ownership of the total design, and understands how and why it works, and most importantly... what changes not to make if they want it to stay working!
